Fiona

Picture
Fiona is mother to two children who were both born at home in water. She is passionate about supporting women in their choices around birth, and this has led her to offering her skills as birth supporter or doula.
Fiona is a recognised doula with Doula UK.

Fiona offers an individualised service (within a 20 mile radius of Frome, Somerset) which can include antenatal support, Shiatsu, birth preparation for couples using Active Birth and Birthing from Within ® techniques, birth support, and postnatal support including Shiatsu and help with getting breastfeeding off to a good start.

Fiona is a qualified Shiatsu practitioner and has completed post graduate training in maternity care with Suzanne Yates.
Shiatsu is often likened to 'acupuncture without needles' as it works along the same principles and energy channels that acupuncture does - instead of using needles to correct the flow of energy and restore the body to health, Shiatsu uses pressure and massage and is often experienced as deeply relaxing.
Fiona is qualifed to teach acupressure/Shiatsu techniques to couples that are appropriate for pregnancy and birth.

Fiona also has some counselling skills, and is working to become a fully accredited Active Birth Teacher. Part of this training involved studying with Janet Balaskas and Michel Odent.  Fiona is currently deepening her yoga practice to enable her to teach others, and she plans to offer pre and postnatal yoga classes in the near future.

Fiona loves dance, and teaches belly dancing for pregnant women and new mothers, bringing the dance back to it's roots of celebrating and encouraging fertility.

Fiona has had training in breastfeeding peer support with the NHS, so can offer help around breastfeeding issues or difficulties.

Fiona has supported women both at home and in hospital with 'natural' and medically managed births, and has personal experience of home waterbirth.

Some of Fiona's clients have engaged her as their birth supporter (doula) for her Shiatsu skills for pain relief and emotional support antenatally and during labour and birth.

Fiona is also the contact for the local homebirth group.
